Kyle Gibson Stumbles Against Guardians

Gibson Struggles in Return to Cleveland

Former Cleveland Indians pitcher Kyle Gibson returned to Progressive Field on Tuesday night for the first time since signing with the Philadelphia Phillies in the offseason. He looked sharp in the first inning, but ran into trouble in the second, allowing four runs on six hits. He was charged with six runs on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings, his shortest outing of the season.

The Guardians took an early lead in the second inning when Jose Ramirez singled home Amed Rosario. Josh Naylor followed with a two-run double, and Owen Miller added an RBI single to make it 4-0. Gibson settled down after that, but the damage had been done. The Guardians added two more runs in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Ramirez and an RBI single by Naylor to put the game out of reach.

Gibson's Struggles Continue

Gibson's struggles continued in his second start since returning from the injured list. He has now allowed 10 runs on 18 hits in 8 1/3 innings this season. The Phillies have lost both of his starts.

Gibson is now 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA this season. He has allowed 18 hits and 10 walks in 8 1/3 innings. The Phillies have lost both of his starts.

The Phillies will need Gibson to turn things around if they want to contend for a playoff spot. The team is currently 11-15 and in fourth place in the NL East.
